Though her brain tumor has affected Hanaka's vision, it has not affected that strong, fun spirit that is so striking.
Hanaka is an adorably smart and talkative seven-year-old. Though her brain tumor has affected her vision, it has not affected that strong, fun spirit that is so striking about her. Hanaka is especially fond of math in school, and at home she listens to books from the Magic Tree House series. Her favorite colors are pink and blue. Hanaka is excited about her upcoming wish to go to Hawaii, and it is evident how passionate she is about this wish. She describes Hawaii as a tropical garden, which is sure to be a welcome paradise and hopeful escape from the everyday.
When she gets there, Hanaka hopes to attend a luau and learn how to hula dance. She can’t wait to taste the tropical juices of Hawaii, and spend a week being pampered like the Hawaiian princess she is inside. Most importantly, Hanaka wants to see the lava that erupts from the Hawaiian volcanoes, and that is responsible for creating the special islands. It is always special to see a child who is immensely interested in something, and Hanaka’s curiosity and passion, especially given her condition, are inspiring.
Hanaka is looking forward to sharing this trip full of new discoveries and adventures with her family, who are all looking forward to a few days relaxation away from the hardships of Hanaka’s treatment. They can’t wait to get there and say “Aloha!” to the experience of a lifetime!
