In the fall of 2008 there was a call for action by a dedicated teacher in the Vista Unified School District. Her idea was to bring together all the schools in the district and the community for one week to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, San Diego. One teacher showed up to the first meeting and a team was born. After sleepless nights, and a lot of hard work by schools and the community, a check was presented in February of 2009 for $41,000. Two years later, the team recruited a few new members and the effort raised over $43,000. The next event, held in 2014, expanded the team and the scope of fundraising events including a golf tournament and corporate sponsorships. When the check was presented in February the dedication paid off with a presentation of $78,000 to the Foundation. Vista’s Big Give has become one of the largest fundraising event for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and ranks with the Disney Corporation for support in San Diego. 2016 looks to be a bigger and better as the homegrown idea has grown to include more events, communities, and most importantly- YOU! Please pledge to get involved—many hearts, one community…Vista’s Big Give!
